  • Great job on setting up this site for the newspaper. I was the editor-in-chief of the Eclectic from 2002-03 and I’ve kept up with the goings on of this important part of THS. I am currently the editor-in-chief of The Utah Statesman, the campus paper at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. In this position I have used many of the skills I gained while editor of the Eclectic.

I am happy to see the staff has made the transition to the web. This is the future of journalism. What you have up looks good. I would suggest some things you could do to make this site even better.

    1. Update this site more frequently. One thing I hated as an editor was only being able to publish a print copy once a month. That is not conducive to really breaking news. But a Web site allows that ability. Have writers cover events and quickly turn around a story and post it on this site. Then heavily advertise this site and get students to come here as their primary source of information.
    2. Spruce the look and feel of the site. This site is clean and crisp, which is good, but it also lacks artwork. Post pictures, illustration, anything you can. Studies have shown that a story with a picture is 80 percent more likely to be read than a story without pictures.
    3. Find ways to make this site more interactive. I know as part of a blogging program, you are kind of limited. If there is a way though, add polls and surveys.

Anyway, those are just a few ideas. I really like what you’ve done. This is awesome. I wish there was a better way to broadcast this resource to other people. Keep it up though. If you could ever use some assistance, I would be happy to help. You can check out our Web site, http://www.utahstatesman.com for some ideas. You can also e-mail me. Good work.
