Utah skiers have options

As the weather changes and the days get shorter, some retreat to the warmth and comfort of their homes while others unpack their coats and put a fresh coat of wax on their boards and skis.

Ski season is here. There is an abundance of resorts at which to spend the winter at. Here are the top three picks for local ski resorts:

Sundance- This is a small resort located just a short 15 minute drive up the canyon. Because of how close it is, you can probably log more hours here than anywhere else. Sundance, by comparison, is far less busy than the other bigger resorts, giving it a quiet, peaceful vibe. If the front side is too flat for your taste, head to the backside and Bishop’s Bowl for the expert riders. Season passes cost $299.

Chris Riley said, “I enjoy Sundance because it is close, and is a great place to start off. I enjoy the community feel of it and the pass is year-round which is good for mountain biking in the summer.”

Park City Resort- Park City resort offers some of the best terrain parks in Utah, making it an excellent choice for riders who want to improve their freestyle game. It also has 104 trails and a superpipe. Because it is located in Park City, it takes 45 minutes to an hour to get there, which may deter some from going as often. However, with passes costing only $225 for students, you will get your money’s worth.

Park City Resort is Devin Olsen’s resort of choice. He said, “I think the park is epic! It’s a great place to bust out my 900s.”

The Canyons- Located in the Park City area, The Canyons resort boasts over 3700 ridable acres, making it the largest in Utah. With many trails ranging from large, wide-open groomers to tree runs, you can get a good variation of runs, so your experience is never the same. The Canyons also offers the best deal for students who are strapped for cash with tickets costing $199, $189 if you’re on the honor roll. Again, the distance may limit the number of days you can spend here.

Jeff Holmes said about this resort, ” I like The Canyons because it’s big, and has lots of runs. I like the big mountain feeling. Plus the passes are cheap!”
